Wardogs Sells 1 Million Copies on Launch Day, Causing Server Chaos
Wardogs, a new multiplayer shooter from developer Bulkhead, has stormed onto the scene with over a million copies sold on its first day. According to IGN, the game also smashed past 300,000 concurrent players on Steam.
This massive rush of players has led to significant server queues, preventing many from jumping into the action right away. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer called crossing the million-sold mark "mental," especially for an early access launch. He noted the team had been transparent, even giving players reasons not to buy the game, and that the strong start means a lot to the developers.
The game is currently only available on PC, but IGN reports it is officially slated for PlayStation 5 and Xbox, though not until 2028. It launched with an initial price tag of $39.99, with the developer planning to raise the cost later as more content is added.
GameSpot provided an update on the server situation, noting a hotfix has been released. Players stuck in queues need to close the game to download the update, but will be placed back into a queue upon logging in again. The developer stated players will be let in via "controlled batches," which suggests the wait times may persist.
Bulkhead acknowledges Wardogs is still in early access with fixes and improvements needed, and expects player hype to fluctuate as they take their time adding new content.
