Wolverine claws past 1.9 million sales despite mixed reception
Marvel's Wolverine has reportedly sold nearly two million copies since its PS5 launch on September 15, according to IGN and Eurogamer. The outlets cite analysis from Alinea Analytics, which estimates the game has generated around $130 million in revenue in its first three days.
Alinea's Rhys Elliott told IGN that over a fifth of those sales, roughly 22.9%, came from physical copies. This is notable as Sony plans to stop making PlayStation discs in 2028.
Despite online mockery and mixed reviews, the game is performing strongly. Per Kotaku, the analyst firm ranks Wolverine as the sixth top-grossing PS5 game of 2026 so far, just days after launch. The data suggests it's selling faster than other recent PlayStation Studios releases like Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei.
Elliott told IGN that the game's early success puts it ahead of other 2026 PlayStation Studios titles, including Marathon and Marvel Tōkon. However, he cautioned that its "commercial long tail is limited by its mixed media and streamer reception," predicting it won't reach the evergreen sales heights of a title like Spider-Man 2.
Polygon also reported the game is Sony's bestselling new PS5 title of 2026. The future sales trajectory remains a question, with analysts suggesting potential bumps from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday MCU film and the holiday season.
