Zelda movie gets title, logo, and April 2027 release date
Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. According to Collider, the film will simply be titled The Legend of Zelda, accompanied by a logo featuring the iconic Triforce. It's scheduled to hit theaters on April 30, 2027.
The project represents a major shift for the franchise, as ScreenRant notes. After 39 years of video game entries carrying subtitles, the cinematic adaptation is breaking tradition by using the core series name alone.
Creator Shigeru Miyamoto offered some insight during a Nintendo Direct presentation, per MovieWeb. He confirmed the movie will not be a direct adaptation of any single game. Instead, it will be an original story pulling from the concepts and lore built up across the series' four-decade history.
The cast is taking shape. Collider reports that Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link, with Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. Their foe, Ganon, will be portrayed by Uli Latukefu. Dichen Lachman is set to play Impa, with Yvonne Strahovski, Lydia Peckham, and the late Sam Neill also in unspecified roles.
Wes Ball is directing from a script by T.S. Nowlin, with Miyamoto and Avi Arad producing. The film marks only Nintendo's second major foray into film after the infamous 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie, and the studio is clearly hoping to stick closer to the source material this time.
