Amazon MGM developing 'Nimona' creator's pirate novel 'Scarlet Morning' as film

A new fantasy novel from 'Nimona' author ND Stevenson is getting the live-action treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM Studios is moving forward with a film adaptation of 'Scarlet Morning,' a middle grade pirate adventure published last year.

Kate Herron, who directed the first season of 'Loki,' is on board to direct and produce. She will also co-write the script with Kari Granlund. The project marks the first for Herron's new production banner, A Bag of Rats.

Producers include Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Darlene Caamaño Loquet of Oh My Darlin' Entertainment, the latter of whom previously worked with Lee on the 'Nimona' film.

The story follows two orphans who grow tired of waiting for their parents and instead join a pirate crew on a quest to save a land called Dickerson's Sea. No casting or release window has been announced.
