Diablo 5 arrives spring 2029 as Blizzard details new classes and dark setting
Blizzard has confirmed Diablo 5 is targeting a Spring 2029 release. The announcement came during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, per GameSpot and Nintendo Life.
According to a PC Gamer report from a developer panel, the game is set 100 years after the events of Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion. The Lord of Terror, Diablo himself, will be a central character ruling over a ravaged Sanctuary, with a campaign focused on restoring the iconic location of Westmarch.
The developers revealed several planned gameplay features. PC Gamer reports the sequel will have more character classes than any previous Diablo game, including a newly revealed Plague Knight class confirmed by Polygon. The team is also implementing procedurally-generated dungeons and a loot system inspired by Diablo 2.
In a related update, PC Gamer reports that no further expansions are planned for Diablo 4. Game director Brent Gibson stated the team is "all focused on seasons and getting to Diablo 5." He added that support for Diablo 4 will continue "for a very long time," using upcoming seasons to bridge the narrative gap to the 2029 sequel.
