Dune 3 cast says film will make major departures from the books

The stars of the upcoming "Dune 3" are warning fans to expect some significant changes from the original novels, per Variety.
In an interview with The New York Times, Zendaya confirmed the Denis Villeneuve-directed film will take "departures" from Frank Herbert's source material, though she noted much of it remains true to the books. The movie is heavily based on the 1969 sequel novel "Dune Messiah."
Newcomer Robert Pattinson, who plays Scytale, told the outlet, "You got to be kind of crazy if you're going to be picking fault with this one" over the literary adaptations. He called the script "quite complicated" and said the finished film felt more emotional and moving than he anticipated, focusing on themes like parenting.
Franchise lead Timothée Chalamet said he was "absolutely" satisfied with Villeneuve's conclusion to the trilogy, claiming the director "just changed the location of the bar" in terms of quality. Florence Pugh, returning as Irulan, praised the series for helping "bring back moviegoing" after the pandemic.
In related news, JoBlo reports the film's official runtime and MPA rating have been revealed. The movie has been rated for "strong elements." "Dune 3" is scheduled for release on December 18.
