New 'Constantine' movie moves forward with 'Evil Dead Wrath' writer

A fresh cinematic take on DC's chain-smoking exorcist is officially in the works. According to Deadline, filmmaker Francis Galluppi has been brought on to write the screenplay for a new John Constantine movie at DC Studios.

Galluppi is currently set to direct the upcoming 'Evil Dead Wrath,' which Warner Bros. will release in 2028. He previously wrote and directed the feature 'The Last Shop in Yuma County.'

TheWrap confirmed the project is moving forward, with Galluppi also set to helm the new feature. It is reportedly separate from the long-discussed 'Constantine 2' sequel that would see Keanu Reeves return, though the status of that legacy project remains unclear.

The character of John Constantine first appeared in the pages of Swamp Thing comics in June 1985, before headlining his own long-running horror series, 'Hellblazer.'

This new film is in early development, with no other major talent attached. Per the reports, its connection to James Gunn's broader DC Universe or its exact nature remains unconfirmed.
