Maitreyi Ramakrishnan warns Smash Bros rivals she will crush them
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, star of Netflix's 'Never Have I Ever' and the new film 'Best of the Best,' is a self-proclaimed Nintendo obsessive, per Polygon.
She revealed her childhood gaming was strictly limited to Nintendo consoles like the DS and GameCube, with a library of classics from that era. Her favorites include the fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the RPG Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and titles from the Kirby, Zelda, and Pokémon series.
Ramakrishnan told the outlet she was terrible at Smash Bros. as a kid but persevered. She said she eventually realized success wasn't about button-mashing, but about learning specific moves and strategic combos. That practice led to her dominating matches against her cousins.
She's now a confident Kirby main, boasting she could defeat opponents without relying on the character's signature down-B move. She added that she likes to use that move as a trick to set up other attacks.
While not a trained dancer for her new movie, Ramakrishnan noted rhythm games like Just Dance were part of her preparation. When given the chance to pick a favorite item from a shop, she chose the original Super Smash Bros. cartridge for the Nintendo 64, a game released before she was born.
