Marathon's Big PvE Update and New Release Model Delayed Until December
Bungie has delayed Marathon's next major content drop, which includes its long-awaited permanent PvE mode. According to a blog post reported by Eurogamer, the update originally planned for September 22 will now arrive on December 8.
The studio is also scrapping its seasonal schedule. Bungie stated it is moving away from fixed deadlines to give developers more flexibility to build and test features before release. The December update, dubbed Symbiosis, will bring the permanent player-versus-environment mode, a new social hub for weapon testing, and a redesigned starting area. A new experimental PvP mode is also planned.
Instead of the major update next week, players will get a smaller patch on October 6. This patch will refresh the in-game progression systems and economy and introduce a new battle pass. A limited-time PvE mode called Vault Breaker will also make a comeback.
Bungie acknowledged player feedback that Marathon needs more depth and better reasons to keep playing long-term. The studio said addressing that requires changes to both what they build and how they deliver it.
