Marvel Tōkon Steam Player Count Crashes Below 1,000
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is struggling to keep players on Steam, according to a report from Kotaku. The game's 24-hour peak player count has plummeted into triple digits, dropping to just 994 concurrent users over a recent weekend.
The game launched six weeks ago to solid review scores on PlayStation 5, but PC players reported widespread performance problems. Its Steam rating remains at a "Mixed" 49 percent positive, per the outlet.
Kotaku cites a report from Alinea Analytics estimating total sales across all platforms at around 740,000 copies. While that appears to outpace Arc System Works' previous fighter Guilty Gear Strive at a similar point, the outlet notes that a Marvel-branded game performing only on par with a niche title is a weak result.
Multiple factors are blamed for the PC decline. Players criticized region-locking that excluded many countries and pointed to Sony's always-online DRM as a potential cause of performance woes. Arc System Works has issued multiple patches aimed at stabilizing the PC version.
The developers have apologized publicly. Producer Takeshi Yamanaka expressed hope that the team's efforts would resonate with players and encourage them to return, Kotaku reports. A separate apology was posted directly to the game's Steam page.
With a planned DLC roadmap stretching into late 2027, the current player count seems unsustainable. Kotaku speculates that the upcoming release of the Cyclops character might provide a temporary boost, but questions whether it will be enough for long-term support.
