Silent Hill Townfall devs smashed real TVs to build its retro gadget
The team behind Silent Hill: Townfall went to some extreme lengths to give its world a tactile, analogue feel. According to Eurogamer, developers at studio Screen Burn deliberately wrecked old TVs with magnets to inform the design of the in-game gadget known as the CRTV.
Rock Paper Shotgun reports the team is playing against players' nostalgic tech feelings by setting the game in the 1990s. It swaps the series' iconic radio for a portable CRT device, a move the outlet says feels more fitting than modern tech like a faux iPhone seen in other recent entries.
The approach aims to ground the horror in a specific, retro-futurist aesthetic, though the outlet admits it's not entirely convinced the nostalgic gambit will work on everyone.
