Stephen Root Confirms GTA 6 Role, Breaks Rockstar's Secrecy
The first major actor has officially confirmed they are in Grand Theft Auto 6, and they did it without Rockstar's permission. Per IGN, veteran actor Stephen Root revealed his involvement in an interview with the Associated Press.
Root, known for voicing characters on King of the Hill and roles in Barry and Get Out, told the outlet, "Yeah, you're gonna see me in it." He suggested fans had already figured it out after hearing his distinctive voice in promotional material.
While Root didn't name the character, outlets like Eurogamer and Push Square report that fans believe he is voicing Brian Heder, a drug trafficker and boatyard owner featured in the game's second trailer and extended look. Rockstar's official website describes Heder as a classic smuggler who gets protagonist Jason to do his "dirty work."
Remarkably, Rockstar Games has yet to officially confirm any cast members for GTA 6, including the actors playing leads Jason and Lucia. Root's confirmation, as reported by multiple outlets, appears to be a break from the developer's famously tight-lipped marketing strategy.
The actor also reiterated the game's release date, saying, "It's coming out November 19th, is the latest I know of." He added that he was "so happy to be involved" and called the project "an amazing thing to look at."
