Tencent reportedly sunk six years and millions into a failed GTA rival
Tencent spent years and a fortune trying to build a competitor to Grand Theft Auto, but has now pulled the plug. According to Kotaku, the Chinese tech giant invested six years and hundreds of millions into a project called Last Sentinel before abandoning it.
The cancellation reportedly led directly to layoffs at Lightspeed LA, the California studio developing the game. The project was Tencent's ambitious attempt to create a major AAA title that could go head-to-head with the likes of GTA.
