Wolverine PS5 Scent Trail Hotfix Deployed as Sales Estimates Soar
Insomniac Games has quickly responded to player feedback on Marvel's Wolverine. Per Push Square, a new hotfix has reduced the opacity and intensity of the game's 'scent trail' visual effect.
The trail, which some players had mockingly called a 'fart trail', is used to guide players to collectibles and for some story sequences. The developer stated it is exploring options to add a toggle to disable the feature entirely in a future update.
Despite online criticism of the trail and other hand-holding elements, sales estimates for the PS5 exclusive are reportedly strong. Analytics firm Alinea, as reported by Push Square, estimates the game has sold approximately 1.9 million units in its first three days.
That figure would translate to an estimated $130 million in revenue, with about 23% of sales being physical copies. The firm's data suggests the game's early sales have already surpassed the lifetime PS5 sales of Death Stranding 2 and are outpacing other major titles like Ghost of Yotei.
Push Square notes that Alinea's methodology and accuracy are debated, and official numbers from Sony are still pending. The outlet's report indicates the game is currently among the highest-grossing PlayStation 5 titles released this year.
